Kevin has sent the Hastings Observer this press release on the Link’s recent trip to join our SL friends for the annual Thanksgiving service.
Strength of friendship link recognised
Members of the Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link (HSLFL) recently had their work recognised by ex-pat Sierra Leoneans. HSLFL is the charity that promotes and embodies the aims of the formal twinning, established in 2007, of our town of Hastings in the UK and its namesake in Sierra Leone.
Several members of the Hastings-based charity recently travelled to Romford, where a thanksgiving and communion service was held to celebrate 30 years of the Sierra Leone Hastings Association UK. This was followed by a reception, at which traditional Sierra Leonean food was served. Members of the HSLFL spoke about the recent fundraising projects and other work they had done, particularly with schools in the West African country.
Among the speakers was HSLFL trustee Roger Mitchell, who then accepted a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the friendship link from the Sierra Leone Hastings Association UK. Roger said :- “It was an honour for the Hastings Sierra Leone Friendship Link’s work to be recognised in this way. There is still much to be done in the country. Our fundraising continues, as do our efforts to enhance the health centre in the town, and our work with schools, including improving their sanitation and encouraging them to grow their own produce. Details of the link can be found athttps://www.hastingshastings.org.uk/ “
Roger has now presented Cllr Judy Rogers, the mayor of Hastings, with the certificate, which will be kept at Hastings Town Hall.
